Glorious Start to the SJM 10th Asian Wushu Championships 2024

Amidst the eager anticipation of wushu enthusiasts worldwide, the SJM 10th Asian Wushu Championships 2024 kicked off today in Macau.

Today’s events saw top wushu athletes from various countries converge in Macau for intense competitions. In Men's Nanquan, Kai jie bryan TI from MAS emerged victorious with a narrow margin, securing the gold medal with a score of 9.696, demonstrating his superior technical proficiency and consistent performance. Korean athlete Donghae YUN and Vietnamese athlete Nong VAN HUU followed closely, claiming silver and bronze respectively, with their outstanding displays equally deserving of praise.

In the Women's Tajiquan, Chinese athlete Xu WU shone brightly, capturing the gold medal with a near-perfect score of 9.746, leaving a profound impression on everyone. Singapore's Zeanne zhi ning LAW and Japan's Shiho SAITO secured the silver and bronze positions respectively, their graceful postures and exquisite skills earning thunderous applause from the spectators.

Furthermore, Chinese athletes dominated multiple events, including Women's Gunshu, Men's Qiangshu, Women's Qiangshu, Men's Daoshu, and Women's Nanquan. Yibinyu ZHENG triumphed in the Women's Gunshu with a high score of 9.79, while Ao XU achieved a perfect score of 9.8 in the Men's Qiangshu, setting a new benchmark. Yawen WANG and Xiaobin GAO clinched gold in the Women's Qiangshu and Men's Daoshu, respectively. Notably, Yaling ZHANG from China stunned the audience with a remarkable score of 9.81 in the Women's Nanquan.

It is worth mentioning that local Macau athletes also made impressive achievements today. Chi hin KUONG and Cho man SOU secured silver and bronze medals in the Men's Qiangshu and Women's Gunshu, respectively, bringing honor to Macau. This not only highlights the thriving development of wushu in Macau but also adds a unique local flavor to the championships.

In the Sanda competition, a total of 23 bouts were held on the first day, featuring the round of 8 and quarterfinals of 13 Men's and Women's weight categories, which were fiercely contesed. In the Women's 70kg semifinals, China's Hailan ZHU and Iran's Seyedehyasaman BAGHERZADEHVASKAS emerged victorious and will compete for the gold medal on the final day, while Turkmenistan's Govher GOVSHUDOVA and Kazakhstan's Karina ISMAILOVA secured the bronze medals. Athletes from over 15 countries and regions displayed their superb fighting skills and indomitable spirit, delivering thrilling matches for the audience. We eagerly anticipate more surprises and inspiring moments in the upcoming days of the Sanda competitions.
