On October 15, 2025, Mr. Chan Weng Kit , President of the Wushu Federation of Asia (WFA), and Mr. Chen Tiejun, Director of the Hainan Provincial Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television, and Sports, officially signed the "Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation in Promoting the Development of Wushu" at the Grand Hyatt Macau, City of Dreams, marking a new phase in bilateral collaboration on wushu promotion, event organization, and cultural heritage. 

The signing ceremony took place during the Hainan Free Trade Port Industrial Development Opportunities Promotion Conference. As a core event of the conference, the ceremony was witnessed by Mr. Liu Xiaoming, Governor of Hainan Provincial People’s Government, and Ms. O Lam, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government. Distinguished guests, including Ms. Tang Hua, Director-General of the Hainan International Economic Development Bureau, and Mr. Chen Xi, Mayor of Sanya City, also attended the event. 

Both parties agreed to leverage wushu as a platform to drive the healthy, orderly, and sustainable development of wushu projects in Hainan, while supporting the province’s efforts to establish itself as an international wushu exchange hub. 

Under the memorandum, the two sides will jointly introduce and host WFA brand wushu events and Championships to expand the global reach of Hainan’s international wushu competitions. Additionally, they will collaborate on cultural initiatives, including intangible cultural heritage preservation, wushu-themed film and television production, and international wushu summits, to elevate the global stature of Wushu. 

Through the promotion conference, the Hainan delegation not only showcased the policy incentives and investment opportunities of the Hainan Free Trade Port to Macao’s public and private sectors but also deepened mutually beneficial cooperation between Hainan and Macao in culture and sports through wushu as a bridge.
