At 8:00 a.m. on June 29, the opening ceremony for the “2026 IWUF International Wushu Judges Training and Certification Course & Wushu Judges Training Course for the 20th Asian Games” was held in Haikou, China.
The ceremony was presided over by Jin Xiaobing, Chair of the IWUF Judges’ Committee. He stated that a just and professional team of judges is the key to the healthy development of wushu competitions. This training course aims to elevate the officiating standards for wushu judges in the globe.
In his address, Mr. Li Haigang, Deputy Director of the Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports of Hainan Province, welcomed the instructors and judges from various countries and regions. He noted that hosting this training course in Haikou is a strong vote of confidence in the Hainan’s capability to organize sporting events. Hainan will provide comprehensive logistical support, including accommodation, transportation, and practical training venues, while leveraging the training course to build a bridge for international wushu exchanges. Moving forward, Hainan will continue to refine its wushu development policies and create an international platform for wushu exchange.
Mr. Li Yongqiang, Chair of the IWUF Technical Committee and Vice President of the Chinese Wushu Association, emphasized that judges play a vital role in the standardization and internationalization of wushu. He expressed his hope that judges from different countries and regions would exchange ideas, learn from each other, and enhance their professional skills to ensure the success of major international events such as the upcoming Asian Games and Youth Olympic Games.
Mr. Wissam Trkmani, Director of OCA Family Relations & Development Programs at the Olympic Council of Asia, pointed out that professional judges are the foundation of fairness and justice at the Asian Games. He affirmed that the OCA will continue to support the promotion and development of wushu across Asia.
Mr. Chan Weng Kit, Vice President of the IWUF and President of the Wushu Federation of Asia, officially declared the training course open. He highlighted that this is the first time the IWUF and WFA have joined forces with the OCA to conduct specialized judge training for the Asian Games. He expressed his gratitude for Haikou’s meticulous preparations, encouraged the participants to study diligently and officiate according to regulations, and wished them success in obtaining their international judges certifications.
The seven-day training course is organized by the International Wushu Federation, the Olympic Council of Asia, and the Wushu Federation of Asia. It is co-hosted by the Chinese Wushu Association, the Department of Tourism, Culture, Radio, Television and Sports of Hainan Province, and China Sports International Co., Ltd. The program brings together 166 wushu judges from 39 countries and regions, focusing on two major disciplines: Taolu and Sanda. Through systematic teaching modules that include theoretical lectures, on-site practical training, video simulation of judging, and specialized assessments, the course aims to further unify international wushu officiating standards and comprehensively enhance the theoretical knowledge and professional capabilities of judges worldwide.
