WFA Officials Visited Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of Macao SAR


On September 10, 2024, led by Chan Weng Kit, President of the Wushu Federation of Asia (WFA), a delegation of WFA officials visited Ao Ieong U, Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao Special Administrative Region Government, during the 10th Asian Wushu Championships. The meeting aimed to strengthen exchanges and jointly promote the development of wushu in Asia and beyond.

Chan Weng Kit delivered a speech, expressing heartfelt gratitude to the Macao SAR Government for its warm reception. He mentioned that since its establishment in 1987, the WFA has been committed to enhancing cooperation and exchanges within the Asian wushu community, elevating the technical standards of wushu, and successfully hosting multiple editions of the Asian Wushu Championships and Asian Junior Wushu Championships. He specifically highlighted that Macao's contributions and achievements in the field of wushu are evident, with numerous successful wushu events and promotional activities, making significant contributions to the development of wushu in Asia. And expressed his sincere gratitude to the Macao SAR Government and relevant sports departments for their support and hoped that this exchange would further deepen the cooperative relationship between the two sides, jointly contributing to the development plan of Macao as a "City of Sports" and the prosperity of Asian wushu.

Ao Ieong U thanked the WFA for its long-term support and dedication to wushu, expressing the hope that while promoting competitive sports, the WFA would also strive to nurture the younger generation and build a robust talent pipeline. She noted that Macao boasts mature experience in hosting large-scale competitions and reception work, believing that it will attract more major sports events in the future, further promoting the development of the sports industry and contributing to the moderate diversification of Macao's economy. Meanwhile, she encouraged the WFA to continue promoting wushu worldwide.

The meeting facilitated communication and exchanges between the two sides in promoting the development of wushu. Attendees also included WFA Vice Presidents Mahdi Alinejad, Julian Camacho, and Chen Chong, as well as committee members Zhang Qiuping and Fok Kai Man; and Chief-of-Cabinet of the Office of the Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture of the Macao SAR Government, Ho Ioc San, and the Acting President of the Sports Bureau, Luis Gomes.
