Over 100 elite athletes to gather in Songyuan for Asia’s TOP wushu Extravaganza kicks-off 

(Changchun, China – June 28, 2025) The press conference for the "1st Wushu Taolu Asian Cup & 2nd Wushu Sanda Asian Cup" was convened at 15:00 today at the Information Office of the Jilin Provincial People’s Government. Guests including Chan Weng Kit,  President of Wushu Federation President; Gao Jifeng, Deputy Director of Jilin Provincial Sports Bureau; Zheng Nan, Director of the Taolu Department of Chinese Wushu Association; Zhao Yuhang, Deputy Secretary General of the Songyuan People’s Government, and Choy Ching Chi, Technical Committee Vice Chairman of the Wushu Federation, attended the conference to provide brief on the event's preparation progress and highlights to the public. Organized by the Wushu Federation of Asia, co-host by the Chinese Wushu Association, Jilin Provincial Sports Bureau, and Songyuan People’s Government, this top Asian wushu competition will take place at the Songyuan Gymnasium on July 5–6, bringing together 171 top athletes from 20 countries and regions to compete in Taolu and Sanda events. 

Representing the host city, Zhao Yuhang enthusiastically promoted Songyuan as a city harmonizing sports and ecology. He emphasized, "Hosting this event is not only a recognition of Songyuan but also an opportunity to deepen the integration of ‘sports + culture and tourism.’ We aim to establish ‘Wushu by Chagan Lake’ as a new city icon, blending wushu artists’ vigor with Chagan Lake’s serenity and resonating wushu spirit with urban charm." He invited wushu enthusiasts to witness this July’s sports-cultural extravaganza by Chagan Lake. 

Zheng Nan highlighted that since the organizing committee’s establishment in November 2024, preparations have adhered to principles of "global vision, international standards, Chinese characteristics, and high-quality positioning." A seasoned technical team with over 20 years of event experience ensures international-standard services in safety, anti-doping, and venue management. Resource integration includes a four-tier coordination mechanism, eight months of on-site optimizations, and curated local cultural activities. All participating teams will enjoy top-tier accommodation, training facilities, and regional cuisine. Preparations are now complete, ready to welcome Asian athletes with excellence. 

Choy Ching Chi noted that the Asian Cups for Taolu and Sanda, held every four years, are Asia’s pinnacle wushu events, showcasing elite athletes from the latest Asian Wushu Championships. 

The Taolu competition features 23 events (including one mixed pair event), with 105 athletes from 16 teams, all top-8 finishers in individual events at the 10th Asian Wushu Championships. The sanda competition includes 18 weight categories, with 66 athletes from 14 countries and regions, all medalists from the championships. Competing under 2024-revised international rules, the two-day event will be held simultaneously at the same venue, where Asian and World champion-level athletes will deliver elegant and captivating Taolu performances as well as thrilling Sanda bout, creating a unique visual impact. 

Gao Jifeng stated, "These two top Asian wushu events will debut in Songyuan, reflecting the State General Administration of Sport’s commitment to promoting wushu globally. They will showcase wushu’s development in Asia and advance its internationalization and cultural heritage." Service provisions include a 100-strong volunteer team (30 multilingual), star-rated hotel accommodations with Chinese, Asian, and halal meals, and a comprehensive media campaign across print, broadcast, and digital platforms. Safety measures involve anti-doping supervision, medical teams, fire engines, and police presence, with a 15-minute emergency route to a top-tier hospital. 

Chan Weng Kit attributed the event’s Songyuan hosting to the city’s rich sports culture and government support. He stressed the Wushu Federation of Asia’s dedication to youth training, international competitions, and cultural exchange, noting that wushu serves as a bridge for Asian exchanges. "This event not only provides technical stage but also inherits wushu’s cultural essence, inviting global participation to shine on the world stage," he concluded, wishing the tournament a resounding success. 

With the press conference concluded, Asia’s wushu celebration—blending athletic passion and cultural heritage—is now in its final countdown. Free admission for the July 5–6 matches will allow Chagan Lake to witness Asian wushu elites’ultimae showdown while launching a new chapter for "sports + culture and tourism"-driven urban development.
