Wushu unites Asia, youth ignite dreams! On the evening of July 25th, the 12th Asian Junior Wushu Championships is officially declared open at the Heilan Pegusus Watertown in Jiangyin!

This summer marks a new wave of enthusiasm for wushu, as young talents from across Asia gather to exchange skills in fist and weapon routines, showcasing the heritage and innovation of wushu through the vigor of youth. In Asia, wushu is more than just a traditional sport — it serves as a vital carrier of cultural inheritance and a bridge for international exchange.

The 12th Asian Junior Wushu Championships is hosted by the Wushu Federation of Asia, organized by the Wushu Administrative Center of the General Administration of Sport of China, the Chinese Wushu Association, the Chinese Jiangsu Wushu Association, and the People’s Government of Wuxi. Co-organizers include the Wushu Administrative Center of Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau, the Jiangsu Wushu Association, the Wuxi Municipal Sports Bureau, and the People’s Government of Jiangyin. The event is executed by the Jiangyin Municipal Administration of Culture, Sports, Radio, Television and Tourism, the People’s Government of Xinqiao Town, Pegasus Culture and Sports Development Co., Ltd., and Shengshi Sports Events Co., Ltd. 

The opening ceremony was attended by over 600 guests, including Chan Weng Kit, President of Wushu Federation of Asia; Zhang Yuping,  Secretary General of the International Wushu Federation, Director General of Wushu Administrative Center of General Administration of Sport of China; Mahdi Alinejad, Julian Camacho, Chong Kim Fatt, Vice Presidents of Wushu Federation of Asia; Gadzhiev Gadzhi, Vice President of the Kazakhstan Olympic Committee; Ang Mong Seng, Bhupender Bajwa, Yang Mei Jung, George Nseir, Members of the Executive Committee of the Wushu Federation of Asia; Chen Chong, Deputy Director General of Wushu Administrative Center of General Administration of Sport of China, Vice President of Wushu Federation of Asia; Shen Zhengang, Deputy Director General of Wushu Administrative Center of General Administration of Sport of China; Li Yongqiang, Deputy Director General of Wushu Administrative Center of General Administration of Sport of China, Chairman of Technical Committee of Wushu Federation of Asia; Liu Tong, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau; Zhou Jianping, Vice President of Chinese Wushu Association, Founder of Heilan Group; Ji Zhen, Deputy Mayor of Jiangyin; leaders from the Wushu Federation of Asia, the General Administration of Sport of China, the China National Commission for UNESCO, the Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau, and government officials from Jiangyin City, and Xinqiao Town, as well as the participating teams and technical officials of the Wushu Federation of Asia, invited guests, and friends from the media.

In the opening ceremony, Ms. Zhang Yuping, Secretary General of the International Wushu Federation, Director General of Wushu Administrative Center of General Administration of Sport of China, as well as Mr. Liu Tong, Deputy Director of Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau, delivered remarks. Athlete representative Zhang Manlan and judge representative Mehrdad Shirazi each took a solemn oath. 

Secretary-General Zhang Yuping, on behalf of the Organizing Committee of the 12th Asian Junior Wushu Championships, warmly welcomed the distinguished guests, athletes, and all the attendees. She remarked that wushu embodies the spirit of virtue, strength, and perseverance, aligning closely with the Olympic ideals. As a powerful platform for intercultural dialogue and mutual understanding, this competition allows young athletes from across Asia to showcase resilience through competition and to foster friendship through exchange. She extended her best wishes for outstanding athletic performances and a successful event.

Deputy Director Liu Tong, representing the Jiangsu Provincial Sports Bureau, extended a heartfelt welcome to athletes, coaches, and referees from countries and regions across Asia. He noted that wushu is not only a spiritual symbol deeply rooted in Chinese civilization but also a cultural gene thriving in the land of Jiangsu. This event serves as a bridge for young wushu athletes in Asia to learn from one another and deepen friendship. Guided by the principle of “Health First”, Jiangsu actively promotes youth sports, builds competition systems, and advances wushu education in schools. Hosting this championship affirms Jiangsu’s strengths in sports and contributes to the integrated development of culture, sports, and tourism. He wished the event great success and expressed hopes that young athletes would make friends through wushu and together write a new chapter in wushu legend.

Mr. Chan Weng Kit, President of the Wushu Federation of Asia, presented plaques of recognition to the Chinese Wushu Association and Heilan Group, in appreciation of their valuable support and contributions to the preparation of the event.
